How Great Thou Art (Hymn)

How Great Thou Art
(Lyrics: Stuart K. Hine)

 O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed:

Chorus:
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze:

And when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then shall I bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, My God, how great thou art!"

Isaiah 59:20 And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.

Philippians 2:5-11 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Isaiah 40:9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

Stricken, Smitten, And Afflicted (Hymn)

Stricken, Smitten, And Afflicted
(Lyrics: Thomas Kelly)

Stricken, smitten, and afflicted,
See Him dying on the tree!
’Tis the Christ by man rejected;
Yes, my soul, ’tis He, ’tis He!
’Tis the long expected prophet,
David’s Son, yet David’s Lord;
Proofs I see sufficient of it:
’Tis a true and faithful Word.

Tell me, ye who hear Him groaning,
Was there ever grief like His?
Friends through fear His cause disowning,
Foes insulting His distress:
Many hands were raised to wound Him,
None would interpose to save;
But the deepest stroke that pierced Him
Was the stroke that Justice gave.

Ye who think of sin but lightly,
Nor suppose the evil great,
Here may view its nature rightly,
Here its guilt may estimate.
Mark the Sacrifice appointed!
See Who bears the awful load!
’Tis the Word, the Lord’s Anointed,
Son of Man, and Son of God.

Here we have a firm foundation,
Here the refuge of the lost.
Christ the Rock of our salvation,
Christ the Name of which we boast.
Lamb of God for sinners wounded!
Sacrifice to cancel guilt!
None shall ever be confounded
Who on Him their hope have built.

Isaiah 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

The Blessings Of God On Your Family (Poem)

The Blessings Of God On Your Family

May the Lord bless you and keep you close beside Him each day;
May His Word be the guiding light that shines upon your way;
May His will be your delight each and every moment you pray;
And may His peace be your guard, and His presence your stay.

May God’s Spirit be the comfort and wisdom you seek;
May His strength be your fortress whenever you feel weak;
May His grace be the theme that weaves through every part;
And may His love be the motive that dwells in your heart.

May your heart be filled with contentment always,
And the Lord Jesus Christ be the one that you praise;
May the joy of the Lord be the strength of your soul;
And God’s richest blessings be yours to the full.

May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you and your family
in all that you do as you live for Him.

Victorious And Free (Song)

Victorious And Free

All of my enemies
That rejoiced over me,
Thou hast caused them to flee,
And given me the victory.

Thou hast cast all my sins
Into the depths of the sea;
Thou hast drowned all my iniquities,
And hast made me free.

Oh why should I worry,
Or fret in misery;
Thou hast borne all my burdens
When I cast them on Thee.

All praise to Thee, Jesus -
Thou alone hast saved me;
Thou hast died on the cross
And given me life eternally.

Psalms 35:19 Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

Micah 7:8, 19 Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me… He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

John 8:31-32, 36 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free… If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Psalms 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Go Forward (Poem)

Go Forward

When you can’t change the past, go forward!
Though you are standing before the Red Sea at a loss;
Your old master is behind you, closing on your heels;
Go forward, my friend, forward to the cross!

Through your struggles, you can’t feel your Saviour near;
You have stumbled, you have faltered, heart filled now with fear;
But God’s grace is so real - it is available - He is waiting for your cry,
Press forward into His presence, receive the Lord’s mercy from on high.

Go forward - there is still hope though troubles darken your skies;
Go forward, claim His forgiveness, reach forward to the prize.
Don’t run from the Saviour, when your soul feels at wit’s end,
Go forward to the Shepherd, He will carry you, my friend.

Go forward into Jesus’ everlasting arms.
Go forward!

Exodus 14:15-17 And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

2 Kings 4:22-24 And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again. And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well. Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.

Job 23:8-10 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Philippians 3:12-14 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

The Rose Of Sharon (Poem)

The Rose Of Sharon

The Rose of Sharon was planted in the garden of the Lord,
Close beside the crosses where in death His blood was poured;
Alone, in the quiet tomb, their Saviour was laid to rest,
And as the darkness slowly gathered, His friends faced their darkest test.

As each one wandered sadly home, they discussed their sorrowful plight;
With hearts broken deep within them, they faced the coming of the night.
The Passover having ended, the hour grew quite late,
As the shadows gathered around them, they pondered their lonely fate.

The first day was the hardest, they understood only in part;
Trying to remember all His promises, sorrow still filled their hearts;
They awaited in tense silence, for the second day to dawn;
And as the women prepared the spices, the sadness lingered on.

Another night of troubled anguish, their pain still so sharp and raw;
Walking to the tomb that third morning, they weren’t prepared for what they saw:
The stone was rolled away from the entrance, and through the dispelling gloom,
They could see the tomb was empty, the Rose of Sharon began to bloom.

"He is not here, for He is risen!" - shout it from the highest heights,
And the power of death is shattered, farewell to darkest night.
The Saviour has arisen, Jesus has conquered Hell and the grave;
Tell the world, “It is finished!” - Jesus alone can save.

Jesus says,
“I am the Rose of Sharon, and the Lily of the Valleys.”
Taken from Song of Songs 2:1

John 19:41-42 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

Matthew 28:5-8 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.

Go, And I Am With You (Poem)

Go, And I Am With You

Go, My child, for I am with you,
Go, in the fullness of My love.
I know the thoughts that I think towards you -
I’ve given you a mission from above.

I have sent you out into the world,
Go ye therefore boldly in My name -
Bring the lost sheep home to Jesus - reach them -
And know they will never be the same.

I am with you through all your trials,
In the darkness, I am the True Light;
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee” -
In all your battles, go forth in My might.

All that you need to serve your Saviour
Is available to you by My grace;
Be strong, and of a good courage,
For I am with you as you run this race.

Go, in the power that I give you, though the pathway may seem rough;
I am with you still, My child, My provision will be enough.
Go, ye into all the world, Oh, beloved, go in faith today.
I will go before you every moment, and I will prepare the way.

Go, for I am with you - today!

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Isaiah 41:10, 13 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness… For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Deuteronomy 31:6, 8 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee… And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Make Me Free (Song)

 Make Me Free

The darkness of sin enclosed me fast,
This prison I’m in had my soul downcast.
Who can break through and help me to see,
Shatter the darkness and make me free?

Looking above, I prayed for light,
A Friend to shine through the dark of night,
A Saviour to come and rescue me,
Release all my chains and make me free.

I opened the Gospels and began to read;
Asking for wisdom, I had to plead.
I saw there Jesus, who died for me;
He paid sin’s price to make me free.

He had to die on the cross that day,
So His shed blood could wash my sins away.
Suddenly, at last, my eyes could see;
Here was The Truth that could make me free.

Jesus had died, salvation was done;
He rose again, God’s precious Son.
I turned from the sin which imprisoned me,
And as I received Jesus, He made me free.

Now He’s my Saviour and my King;
He loves me so much, my soul has to sing.
In the chains of sin, He showed me the key;
I trusted in Jesus, and He made me free.

Now I’ve a mission from God above:
Go to all the world and tell of His love;
Tell of the Gospel, help others to see,
Tell of the Saviour who can make them free.

(Song title changed from Set Me Free to Make Me Free)

Colossians 1:12-13 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son.

This Greek word for “made free” is used 7 times in the New Testament (translated once as “delivered”):

John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, If ye continue in My word, then are ye My disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Romans 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

I love those old hymns of the faith. They are so precious to me. I know I could never hold a candle to their work, but I wanted to honour those songwriters and their faith. Here is my attempt to take just a few of my favourite hymns, and weave their titles into a song of sorts. I included one of my own poems in this song to make it flow, as I could not find a hymn ready at hand that would fit that stanza. Hope you don't mind too much.

Psalm 33:3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.

Psalm 40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Psalm 96:1 O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.

Psalm 98:1 A Psalm. O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.

Psalm 144:9 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.

Psalm 149:1 Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

Isaiah 42:10 Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.

Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Revelation 14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

Nailed To The Cross (Song)

Nailed To The Cross

The accuser of the brethren does his job very well;
He wants to condemn us and remind us of Hell.
But I went humbly to Jesus, laid all my sins at His feet;
When my past comes to haunt me, I won’t give in to defeat.

(Chorus)
My sins are nailed to the cross,
My sins are nailed to the cross;
I have a new home in Heaven, because of the cross -
My sins are nailed to His cross.

Jesus Christ is the Way, He is the Truth, and the Life,
He shed His blood on Calvary to bring to us new life;
Though your sins may be as scarlet, and your past black as night,
He can wash them away, and make you clean in His sight.

(2nd Chorus)
Your sins are nailed to the cross,
Your sins are nailed to the cross;
You have a new lease on life, because of the cross -
Your sins are nailed to His cross.

Oh my friend, come now to Jesus, the Truth and the Way;
Leave your sins with the Saviour - He will take them away;
And though you may seek them, know that they are truly gone;
If they come back to your mind, you can still carry on.

(3rd Chorus)
Your sins are nailed to the cross,
Your sins are nailed to the cross;
Jesus paid the price, He bore the cost -
Your sins are nailed to His cross.

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Colossians 1:12-14 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Colossians 1:19-22 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

Colossians 2:9-15 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Footprints In The Sand (Poem)

Footprints In The Sand

One night I dreamed a dream.

I was walking along the beach with my Lord.

Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.

For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to me and one to my Lord.

When the last scene of my life shot before me I looked back at the footprints in the sand.

There was only one set of footprints.

I realized that this was at the lowest and saddest times of my life.

This always bothered me and I questioned the Lord about my dilemma.

“Lord, You told me when I decided to follow You, You would walk and talk with me all the way.

But I’m aware that during the most troublesome times of my life there is only one set of footprints.

I just don’t understand why, when I need You most, You leave me.”

He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you, never, ever, during your trials and testings.

When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you.”

By Margaret Fishback Powers

Exodus 19:4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

In Exodus, we see the High Priest with the names of the children of Israel borne upon his shoulders and next to his heart. Jesus is our great High Priest, and what Aaron pictured in Exodus, Jesus is the reality. If you have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, He always carries you on His shoulders and next to His heart.

Exodus 28:12  And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.

Exodus 28:29 And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually.

Deuteronomy 32:11-12 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.

Deuteronomy 33:27a The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms...

Psalm 37:23-24 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

Psalm 145:14 The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

Song of Solomon 8:5 Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.

Isaiah 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

Isaiah 49:15-16  Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

Luke 15:4-5 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

Peace, Perfect Peace (Poem)

Peace, Perfect Peace

Peace, perfect peace at such a time for me;
I need You, Lord, to watch over and cover me.
I’m overwhelmed by fears, in temptation I am weak;
Your peace, Your love, Your joy - Oh Lord. that is what I truly seek.

Peace, perfect peace - make my heart Your home;
Keep me ever close to Your side each time I start to roam.
Comfort me and strengthen me - cause my struggles to cease;
Oh, Lord, I need You now - blanket me with Your peace.

Peace, perfect peace - to that promise I must cling;
Leaning upon You, my Beloved - and the victory You must bring.
There’s a battle that is raging within this heart of mine -
I give these cares to You, Oh Lord, strengthen me this time.

Peace, perfect peace - one day soon I will rise;
Throw off this garment of my flesh, as I take to the skies;
Meet You in the air, Oh Jesus - I can’t wait for that day.
Until then I need Your peace, dear Lord, reigning in my soul each day.

(Dedicated to all my brothers and sisters dealing with ongoing struggles in their lives -
The Lord's strength and grace is always available for you.)

Isaiah 26:3-4 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Perfect peace - literally, “peace, peace,” or “shalom, shalom.”

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Deuteronomy 33:25 Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

Isaiah 30:7 For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.

Isaiah 30:15 For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

Isaiah 30:18 And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

God Broke Through (Poem)

God Broke Through

Breaking through the darkness,
Bringing forth the light,
Dispelling all the shadows,
And scattering darkest night.

God broke through all our darkness,
He’s the Bright and Morning Star;
The True Light that is now shining,
Reaching us where we are.

Breaking forth in judgement;
Bringing justice to the land.
Soon the King will reign in righteousness,
And the Truth of God will stand.

Breaking through the gauntlet,
Setting the prisoners free;
I’m victorious in my Saviour -
For Jesus Christ has rescued me.

Break forth into singing,
And shout aloud in praise;
Worship the Lord in holiness;
Rejoice before Him all your days.

(Dedicated to my Bible study friend, Theresa,
who brought forth a wonderful discussion on the Lord breaking through into our lives.)

Genesis 38:27-30 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb. And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first. And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez. And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.

Studying the book of Genesis, we came across this passage and saw that the next child to be born in the line of Christ was Pharez - named so because he broke through his mother's womb and was born first. Less than 2000 years after that time, God broke through the darkness of our world with the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. One day soon, He is coming back again - breaking through this sin-cursed world to rule and reign from Jerusalem. Has God broken through into your world?

Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

The Morning Star is the last bright star that shines out of the darkness just before the dawn, signifying that morning is coming soon. Jesus is our Morning Star, and the night of this dark world is ending soon when the Sun of Righteousness returns again.

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

John 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

2 Samuel 5:20 And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.

Micah 2:12-13 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men. The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.

Isaiah 49:13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

Isaiah 52:9-10 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

The Haven Of Rest (Hymn)

The Haven Of Rest
(Words: Henry L. Gilmour)

My soul in sad exile was out on life's sea,
So burdened with sin and distressed,
Till I heard a sweet voice, saying,
"Make Me your choice";
And I entered the "Haven of Rest"!

Chorus:
I've anchored my soul in the "Haven of Rest,"
I'll sail the wide seas no more;
The tempest may sweep over the wild, stormy, deep,
In Jesus I'm safe evermore.

I yielded myself to His tender embrace,
In faith taking hold of the Word,
My fetters fell off, and I anchored my soul;
The "Haven of Rest" is my Lord.

The song of my soul, since the Lord made me whole,
Has been the old story so blest,
Of Jesus, Who'll save whosoever will have
A home in the "Haven of Rest."

How precious the thought that we all may recline,
Like John, the beloved so blest,
On Jesus' strong arm, where no tempest can harm,
Secure in the "Haven of Rest."

O come to the Savior, He patiently waits
To save by His power divine;
Come, anchor your soul in the "Haven of Rest,"
And say, "My Beloved is mine."

 Psalm 107:23-32 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end. Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

Arise, And Come Away (Poem)

Arise, And Come Away

Arise, and come away, My love,
Arise, and come away;
Come, spend some time with Me, My child;
Seek My face today.

I long to fellowship with you, My love,
Until the breaking of the day;
Amidst the toiling and the trying times,
Arise, and come away.

I offer rest and renewal for your soul,
I will take your burdens away.
Find solace and shelter in My presence,
Arise, and come away.

Under the shadow of My wings,
You will find a peace like you’ve never known;
Like a sparrow finds a nest in My temple,
I am your eternal home.

I am all you will ever need, My child.
Abba, Father, is My name.
Come spend some time with Me, My love,
Arise, and come away.

Matthew 11:29-30 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Song of Songs 2:10-13 My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

Genesis 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

Jeremiah 6:16a Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.

Psalms 84:1-3 TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN UPON GITTITH, A PSALM FOR THE SONS OF KORAH. How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.

Luke 12:6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

The Savour Of The Saviour' Name (Poem)

The Savour Of The Saviour’s Name

The blessed savour of my Saviour,
Like an ointment or perfume -
Oh, the joy of His dear presence
Floods my heart and fills the room.

Oh, the wonder of Jesus’ name
Captures my soul with pure delight.
And the glory that surrounds us,
Dispels our deepest, darkest night.

When we spend time with our Saviour,
There’s a gladness and a peace.
There’s a hope and expectation -
Abundant life that will never cease.

By His death and resurrection,
He paid redemption’s price for all;
Oh, the blessing of His salvation
When upon His name we call.

The wondrous savour of life unto life -
The blessings that fill our hearts.
Oh, the glory of His presence -
And the wonder His love imparts!

Because of the savour of thy good ointments
thy name is as ointment poured forth,
therefore do the virgins love thee.
Song of Songs 1:3

The Savour Of Jesus’ Name

Song of Songs 1:3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

When we talk about the Lord Jesus Christ, when we fellowship together in His name, it is like a perfume or ointment going forth wherever we go. It is the smell of the burnt offering, wellpleasing to the Father, and we carry that savour everywhere we go. Those around us can tell we have been with Jesus! See Ephesians 5:2; 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 and Acts 4:12-13.

Song of Songs 1:12 While the king sitteth at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof.

Notice the spikenard is the woman’s. Mary of Bethany poured HER spikenard on the Saviour, the King, then the smell filled the house. She did this in preparation for Jesus’s death:

John 12:1-3, 7 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment… Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.

Song of Songs 1:13 A bundle of myrrh is my wellbeloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts.

Next we see the believer referring to Jesus’ burial. Myrrh is the aromatic spice that the dead were wrapped in. Her thoughts of Christ were like a sachet of potpourri sitting next to her heart - her Saviour is kept close to her heart, like someone she truly treasures.

Song of Songs 1:14 My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi.

Lastly, Jesus is compared to a cluster of camphire, another aromatic spice or flower that pictures the atonement of Jesus. The Hebrew word for camphire used here is literally the same Hebrew word used elsewhere that is translated as atonement, the redemption price and covering for our sin.

As believers fellowship over the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, the savour of His name fills our hearts and lives, and transform every place we go. Truly, it is a sweet smelling savour, acceptable to our Heavenly Father!

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

My Wilderness Wanderings (Poem)

My Wilderness Wanderings

Wandering in this wilderness,
Alas the desert, my home for years;
Barren, thirsty, empty inside -
No water in sight but my tears…

You know all of my wilderness wanderings;
Every fallen tear is written in Your book.
When I feel so lost in my own desert,
So dry inside, I can’t even find a brook,

You make note of all of my inward struggles;
Your mercy is there waiting for me each day;
Only needing to return to where I left Your side,
You call me back to the place I wandered away.

Lord, it seems like I’ve fallen so many times,
Faltering, stumbling, reaching for Your hand -
So weak, only able to lean upon my Beloved;
And there I find once again I’m able to stand.

Forgiveness flowing like a stream in my desert,
Quenching all of my thirst in the heat of the day;
My heart leaps for joy and my tongue sings aloud,
My restored soul wandering no longer astray.

(First verse written June 23rd, 2019, after the Lord restored me from my backslidings.)

Psalms 56:8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

Psalms 63:1 A PSALM OF DAVID, WHEN HE WAS IN THE WILDERNESS OF JUDAH. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

Isaiah 32:2 And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Isaiah 41:17-18 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

Lamentations 3:21-23 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Song of Songs 8:5 Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.

Isaiah 35:3-7 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

As The Lily Among Thorns (Poems)

As The Lily Among Thorns

Jesus is the Lily of the Valleys,
Our Saviour is the fairest of delight.
In the darkness of this world,
He’s the bright and shining light.

As the Lily among thorns,
So are His people in this life;
Transplanted spots of beauty,
In the midst of harm and strife.

In His eyes, so spotless, pure, and lovely,
Regal, transformed, and undefiled;
Like the precious flowers of the field,
Clothed with splendour is God’s child.

Living in the midst of thorns -
So tragic is their plight:
While they scorn and harm the lilies,
They dwell in the darkest night.

But sometimes a seed is planted
Among the thorns; yes, tis true;
As the Gospel seed is watered,
We may find a surprising view.

The wonder of the Saviour’s love,
Touching hearts and souls His way -
Can a forgotten thorn become a lily,
Changed and transformed in a day?

In this life, a mystery to imagine,
But now a splendour to behold.
Once, reckless and abandoned,
A new sheep welcomed to the fold.

Live your life for Jesus’ glory;
Be as your Saviour in this world -
Sow the seeds of the Gospel,
And watch as new life unfurls.

Song of Songs 2:1-2 I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys. As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.

Matthew 6:28-30 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

1 John 3:1-3 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Matthew 9:36-38 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Acts 9:4-6 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

When God Whispers Your Name (Poem)

When God Whispers Your Name

Walking in the Garden, in the cool of the day;
Hiding from my Saviour for I had gone astray,
But in His grace and mercy, to me my Lord came;
His love broke my resistance when He whispered my name.

I was like a dead man, with no hope left in the world,
Surrounded by my enemies, when all their lies were hurled;
All my defeats and failures, pouring forth my shame,
Then came a new beginning when the Lord called out my name.

Grieving at the gravesite of my dearest in this life;
Overwhelmed with sorrow, discouragement and strife.
Distressed with loss and anguish, heart so filled with pain -
Comfort and healing came when I heard You say my name.

Wandering without a purpose, feeling forsaken too.
Does God in Heaven love you, can you know this love so true?
Jesus proved His love towards us - the answer is so plain:
The Shepherd now is calling, hear Him whispering your name.

1 Kings 19:11-12 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

A still small voice - the definition of still from Complete Word Study Bible Dictionary: “A feminine noun indicating hushed, a whisper. It indicates a soft gentle blowing or whisper in contrast to the roar of an earthquake, fire, or a storm at sea (1 Kings 19:12; Psalm 107:29).”

Isaiah 43:1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

John 10:2-3 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Genesis 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

Genesis 22:1, 11 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am… And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

Exodus 3:4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

1 Samuel 3:10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

2 Samuel 9:6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!
(While this passage is about David showing mercy to the son of the previous king, it is a type or a picture of the love of God the Father to fallen man: David And Mephibosheth - 2 Samuel 9)

Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

Luke 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

John 11:43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

John 20:16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

Acts 9:4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

Touching The Hem Of Jesus' Garment (Prose)

Touching The Hem Of Jesus’ Garment

I am unclean, she thought. I am separated from those around me. My disease has taken its toll. How can I be healed?

I’ve spent all my money on my physicians - with all their tests and medicine - and yet I am not even one bit better. Rather, I am getting progressively worse. Will I be like this forever? Can I ever be cured? Even I don’t know the answer to that question.

Alone, defiled, aching inside, longing for healing. Longing to be made whole these twelve long, lonely years.

There is a travelling preacher - some say He is the Messiah we’ve been waiting for. Can this be true?

He is preaching of the Kingdom of God, preaching the way of salvation, healing many He has encountered along the way.

What about me? I need forgiveness, I need hope, I need healing, both inside and out.

Can this Jesus be the Saviour we have long been waiting for? I need to see for myself.

There He is - but He is surrounded by so many people in this crowd. Can I get to Him? Will He even desire to speak with me or heal me? I just need to get to Him - just get to Jesus. Nothing else matters! He is my last hope - my only hope.

If I could just get to Him, reach Him, just touch the hem of His garment, like Ruth finding protection and provision under the skirt of Boaz’s garment, I know He could heal me if He was willing. There is healing in His wings - not just for others, for me too!

He is there, just in front of me. The crowd is so loud, even if I call out He could never hear me. But I can almost touch Him.

There, just one more step, stretching forth to reach Jesus, and touching the hem of His garment, and I can feel Jesus’ virtue going forth.

Suddenly, the whole world seems to stop. Something had changed the moment I touched Him. I feel whole, changed, healed. Transformed. Praise the Lord, my plague has been healed after all these years!

Jesus has healed me - inside and out! I am amazed and so filled with gratitude.

Oh no, now others are turning towards me. Jesus is asking who touched Him. It was me, Lord. I fall down at His feet and tell Him all.

I know I just needed to get to You, Jesus. I knew You had the power to heal me. Truly, You are the Sun of Righteousness with healing in His wings.

“Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.”

I touched the hem of Jesus’ garments, I made it to the Master, yea, the Saviour. I am whole.

Leviticus 15:25 And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean.

Mark 5:24-34 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

Ruth 2:12; 3:9 The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust. …And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

Matthew 9:20-21 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

Matthew 14:36 And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

Luke 6:19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
