God's Workmanship (Poem)

God’s Workmanship

Line upon line, each day Jesus Christ is working in me.
Transforming every single page, changing the outcome that I see.
Not a free verse poem, there’s order and progression in my life;
My Father has His perfect plan, bringing eternal glory out of strife.

Laying out His framework, the pattern He sees still;
Writing out each fresh verse according to His will.
There’s a rhyme and a reason, He has a purpose in His mind -
In each finished stanza of my life, many wondrous delights do I find.

Maybe my story will be a new song, a hymn to the Risen Lord,
Where each part flows into the next, working all out in one accord.
The melody sounding forth from a spirit that once was broken,
Transformed by the Spirit of God, now filled with praise outspoken.

One day, God’s ballad will be complete, my time here at an end;
The light and shadows, the trials and triumphs, will all be in perfect blend.
When the lyrics of my life are over, my symphony will one day cease,
Oh may You be pleased, my Lord, with Your heavenly masterpiece.

"He... will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Workmanship is from the Greek word poemia, where we get our English word poem from. We are God’s workmanship, His poem!

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Transformed is metamorphoō, where we get metamorphosis from - like the change a caterpillar goes through - from the inside out, through the work of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Changed is the same word as transformed in Romans 12:2. Changed by the Word of God and the Spirit of God.

Psalms 51:15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

The Day Of Christ (Poem)

The Day Of Christ

The day of Christ is coming - we pray that it won’t be too far away.
There’s a hope and a rejoicing as we think upon that day.
A day of accountability - a day of reckoning or reward;
Can we say, in light of His return, that we have lived sold-out for our Lord?

In the day of Christ, we will find many of God’s promises are fulfilled;
Glorified and in Jesus’s presence - will your soul say that it is thrilled?
First, the rapture to take us to Heaven; what a reunion to behold,
When we get our first glimpse of the New Jerusalem and walk the streets of gold.

Then, at the Judgement Seat of Christ, we will reap what we have sown.
Will it be a time of sorrow or of gladness when we stand before His throne?
Seven years of blissfulness, then the marriage supper of the Lamb -
Are you excited and hopeful for the future, to be with the Great I Am?

We are confident of this very thing: that Jesus will continue the work that He began.
We can trust our all to the Saviour, knowing He will finish what He has planned.
On the day of Christ, there’s a joy to which earthly splendour cannot compare:
There’s a crown of rejoicing that awaits us - reuniting with our saved loved ones in the air.

Are you ready for the day of Christ?

Seven times the Day of Christ is mentioned in the Bible. These verses are prophecies about what the church will be doing in Heaven while the day of the Lord unfolds on earth.

1 Corinthians 1:4-8 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 5:3-5 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

2 Corinthians 1:13-14 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end; As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Philippians 1:9-11 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Philippians 2:14-16 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

2 Thessalonians 2:2-3 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2 Thessalonians 2:3 also refers to that day, but it is not specifically named. Seven is God’s number of perfection/completion, and eight is associated with the Lord Jesus Christ and new beginnings.

Write It On My Heart (Song)

Write It On My Heart

When trials come into our lives, they are here only for a season;
As I walk with You, Lord, You teach me they’re all here for a reason.
And I know one day soon these trials will have an end -
Write it on my heart, my Friend.

Living each day by faith in Your Word, and not walking by sight,
I may not know the future, but I still see Your footprints in the night.
You are the God of my life, the Saviour on which I can depend -
Write it on my heart, my Friend.

When the trials become overwhelming, I know You will make a way;
I’m trusting You in the darkness - until my night is turned into day.
When my heart’s broken in pain, You’re the Great Physician who can mend -
Write it on my heart, my Friend.

Jesus, You are my True Friend that sticks closer than a brother;
Looking back on my life, I see You cared for me like no other.
And I know that everything will be alright in the end -
Write it on my heart, my Friend.

I know that one day soon my trials will come to an end -
Write it on my heart, my Friend.
Write it on my heart, my Friend.

two precious family members in Christ facing cancer.
Keep your eyes on the Lord!)

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

1 Peter 1:6-7 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

2 Corinthians 5:6-8 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Isaiah 50:10 Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.

Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Not My Will, But Thine (Poem)

Not My Will, But Thine

Lord, I know You have power to heal me.
Faithfully, I will daily seek Your will.
Like Job, I will keep my eyes upon You -
Though You slay me, I will trust You still.

Though sometimes the trials we face,
The reasons we may not understand,
But I know that everything I face in life -
Every test or trial - comes from Your hand.

Dying to myself, I know,
You will work all things out in Your own way;
Will it be soon, I wonder,
Or on some future glorious day?

I believe that one day that is coming,
I will be healed fully in Your sight -
Will it be down here upon the earth,
Or in the land where there is no night?

All that I have and I face each day|
Comes from the heart of my loving Father;
So I’m trusting in Your will, my Lord -
Trusting in the wisdom of the Heavenly Potter.

(Dedicated to brother Bob. We long for your healing,
but will trust the Lord to work out His will.)

Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Matthew 6:9-10 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Isaiah 64:8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

When We Stand Before The Lord (Poem)

Some teens in our church went to a student convention last week, to compete with other sound Christian schools around the world. One teen came back today with the challenge that I turned into a poem. Hope it challenges you too. The challenge is the first line of the poem.

When We Stand Before The Lord

"When we stand before the Lord, what will we have to show?"
Will we receive praise from the Master, or will He have to answer, no?
When all our good works are examined, will they really stand the test?
Will they be built from precious stones, or will they be burnt up like the rest?

When we stand before our Father, will He truly say, “Well done.
You’ve died to yourself daily, did all in the name of My dear Son.
You’ve showed to the lost world the Gospel treasure in jars of clay -
Come, My precious child, enter into the joy of your Lord today.”

At the Judgement Seat of Christ, will we have reason to sing?
Will we have lived our lives for His glory, a precious offering?
Will it be a devoted sacrifice, one acceptable to the King?
When we stand before the Lord, what will we have to bring?

When you enter into eternity, when all is said and done,
Did you live to please your Saviour, did you magnify God’s Son?
Will the Master say, “Well done. You’ve glorified your Lord -
You’ve laid your treasures up in Heaven, and here is your reward.”

Will you give your all to Jesus? What kind of harvest will you sow?
"When you stand before the Lord, what will you have to show?"

(Dedicated to Timothy Lasegan, who brought this Biblical challenge.
May we all live to please our Lord day by day!)

1 Corinthians 3:10-15 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

2 Corinthians 4:6-7 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

Matthew 25:19-21 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

2 Corinthians 5:9-10 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Colossians 3:1-3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

By Faith (Poem)

By Faith

By faith, Abel worshipped the Lord
When he offered his sacrifice on that day.
Believing in the coming Lamb of God,|
He came to the altar by faith in God’s way.

By faith, Enoch walked with God -
So dedicated to the Lord he did not roam;
He pleased his Heavenly Father so very well,
He did not taste death when the Lord took him home.

By faith, Noah worked for God;
His family was saved from wrath outpoured;
Kept securely with the animals upon the flood,
Preserved in the ark, shut in safely with the Lord.

By faith, Abraham waited on God,
Though he did not receive the promises in his day;
He looked to the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ -
Now all who believe are his children by faith.

By faith these believers all worshipped and waited;
By faith they all walked with the Lord day by day;
By faith they served their Heavenly Father faithfully;
Oh consider their examples of faith today.

What will you do by faith in the Lord?
Will you worship and wait and walk in His way?
Will serve your Saviour, dedicated to His will?
Will you trust Him and seek Him by faith today?

God can do abundantly above all that we ask or think.
Will you trust Him by faith with all His plans for you?
Will you walk, and work, and worship, and wait -
Will you seek to please God in all that you do?

By faith.

Hebrews 11:4-10 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Longing For Home (Poem)

Longing For Home

The days don’t seem as bright now that you are gone.
I miss your presence and the beauty of your smile.
I remember all the joys we shared throughout the years,
Knowing you were with me through every tear and trial.
Looking forward to seeing you again - yes, I’m longing for home.

The world has lost its lustre, something is missing in this place;
I look around beside me, and I long to see your face.
Everything reminds me of your hugs and the comfort of your touch.
Knowing that I will miss you - even my heart can’t express how much;
But then I look above with joy and hope, and find I’m longing for home.

A place where the light is always on,
Where the warmth of love fills each room,
Where Jesus wipes each tear away,
And removes the shadows and the gloom.

A place of brilliant sunshine, where no pain can ever dwell;
Walking daily by your side and listening to the stories you tell.
Remembering all these things with joy and laughter in my heart,
I long to be with you forever, in the land where we will never part.

I am longing for home.
Keep the porch light on for me.
Yes, I am longing for home.

(This poem is lovingly dedicated to Marguerite Hulme and Tarnia Schultz,
two friends who both recently lost loved ones.
The darker this world becomes,
the greater the reunion in the land of eternal light will be.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus!)

Ecclesiastes 12:1-7 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened, And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low; Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Psalms 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Psalms 92:13 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
