What Is Truth? (Poem)

What Is Truth? "What is truth?" asked Pilate; That's easy enough, I said. It is what's right, what's real - These words that I have read. Truth is God - what He has revealed, Truth is love that is not concealed; Truth is God's promises - He cannot lie; Truth is Jesus Christ, who had to die. Truth is honest, pure and lovely, On these thoughts I must dwell; Truth is God's law written in my heart, The Gospel that I must tell. Truth is in security, in providence; My Lord - He is Faithful and True; I just have to show you how much God's own Son loves you. Jesus gave His life for us - The Bible tells me this is so; I gave my life in faith to Him, That His Truth I might know. March 14, 1995 Jerry Bouey John 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. Ephesians 4:20-21 But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have bee...

The Shepherd Beckons (Poem)

The Shepherd Beckons Baa Baa Black Sheep, You've left the flock to roam; But the Shepherd now is calling - He wants to welcome you back home. He has left the ninety and the nine. To search and find the one; Listen to our Saviour's voice - Don't harden your heart and run. Jesus came down from Heaven, To seek and save that which was lost; He was sacrificed for you - For love comes with a heavy cost. Though your wool is red like crimson, He can remove the deepest stains; He can throw your sins as far as east is from west, Because His love always remains. Oh my wandering little Black Sheep, Before you wander out into the storm, Remember, the only place of safety in this world, Is when you are cradled in His arms. He loves you dearly, my beloved Black Sheep; You need never doubt that He cares; Jesus is knocking softly at your heart's door now, But only you can invite Him there. October 7th, 1995 Jerry Bouey Luke 15:4-7 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose o...

Someday (Poem)

Someday Someday I will see Him, The Lamb who died for me; Someday I will see Him, What a glorious day that will be. Someday I will see Him, Face to face - I know I will; Someday I will see Jesus, Walk with Him upon Zion’s hill. Someday I will hear Him, Spend forever with my Lord; Someday I will hear Him, Listening eagerly for each word. Someday I will hear Him, Hear His beautiful songs of peace; Someday I will be near Him, Experience love that will never cease. Someday I will touch Him, With my hands - I know it’s true; I will hear His voice so lovely, See my Lord - Oh what a view! December 8, 1995 Jerry Bouey Acts 1:10-11 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a whit...

Portraits Of Two Lives (Poem)

Portraits Of Two Lives I see a man who was lonely and blue, But that's not me anymore. I see a heart that was torn in two. But that's not me anymore. I see a girl, lost and afraid, But that's not you anymore. I see a heart that was tattered and frayed, But that's not you anymore. I see a cross standing on a hill; In the back of my mind, I can see it still: There a battered Man hung in agony - While He was dying, He reached for you and me. I see a tomb that is empty now; The body is not there - it's gone, but how? I see a Man with a wound in His side; When I saw His pierced hands and feet, I cried. I see two lives, empty and scarred; But that's not us anymore - We've seen Jesus Christ, our Lord; He has brightened these two portraits forevermore. October 7th, 1995 Jerry Bouey John 3:3-7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be bo...

Nothing But His Love (Poem)

Nothing But His Love Like Peter and John, I have nothing, I don’t even have silver or gold; But indeed I offer you something That's worth more than treasures untold. It's the joy in my heart - I give it to you; The hope stored within - I’ll share it with you. I may not have much to give. I tell you, friend, it's true; But what God's Spirit has given me, I freely give to you. Look inside my heart - look deep within. Look past those spots, once stained with sin. Look at the river of living water, Flowing so powerfully, yet gently, from His Spirit. Listen to the beating rhythm of His love; Sometimes it may seem faint - But I pray, can you hear it? November 7th, 1995 Jerry Bouey See Acts 3 for the Biblical story and some of the ideas behind this poem. Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent hi...

Martyr's Song/Victory (Poems)

Martyr’s Song (Inspired by John Huss - who was martyred in 1420 AD) I go to my death singing sweet praises to the Lamb; I breathe my last breath, saying, I love the Great I Am; I worship the Creator, who formed the Heavens and the Earth; I commit my soul to Him, who chose me before my birth; I bend my knees and bow to the Lord who rules above; And I truly know this now, that my God is truly love. December 10, 1995 Jerry Bouey Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Revelation 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. Victory I’ll take the pain, Father, I’ll take the loss; I’ll face the future, not minding the cost; For You, Lord, I’ll crucify myself each day, So in me others may see Chr...

Is Love Stranger Than Fiction? (Poem)

Is Love Stranger Than Fiction? I don't believe in Cupid's arrows - Trusting in myths isn't too smart; But I believe that someone special Has gently but firmly touched my heart. I don't believe in love at first sight - I know true love takes time; I do believe when God's timing is right, Two separate lives can make one rhyme. I don't believe that love is blind - It's only God's truth that makes us see; With eyes wide open, we're bound to find True love was made for eternity. I don't believe that loves comes easy - True love requires the greatest sacrifice; But when God's Spirit sheds His love in our hearts, Love is worth more than any price. Set me as a seal on your heart, For love is stronger than the bonds of death; Like a flaming fire, it sets two lives ablaze; True love can give meaning to every breath. Many waters cannot quench love; Even raging floods cannot drown it away; For when our lives are transformed by God's touch, I know t...

In Jesus' Name (Poem)

In Jesus' Name Lord Jesus, I want it to be: Your will I seek Your Word I speak Your life I live Your blessings I give Your love I show Your Truth I know Your Knowledge I learn Your fire inside that burns You that my soul yearns Your Wisdom to refute fools Your Spirit that completely rules You that my heart enthrones You that I crown alone Your peace that guards my mind Your riches that I seek to find Your glory that I make my aim My life I live in Jesus' name. November 26th, 1995 Jerry Bouey Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Luke 22:42 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Colossians 3:17

The Road - A Story In Four Parts (Poem)

Here is one of my earlier Christian poems told in the form of a story or allegory. Perhaps it will cause someone else to think about what road they are on in life: the Broad Way or the Narrow Way. If you are not sure you what road you are on, please make sure you are on the Narrow Road by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation. The Road - Part One The Rearview Mirror There's a little Narrow Road that leads to life. You drive on past and say, "This is nice. This wide eight-laned Highway is just great!" Shifting gears, you speed on past the Narrow Gate. You head off into the distance, Down this winding Highway; On the roadside a sign is posted - What does it say? "Destruction Ahead." Boy, you think, someone can't spell. This road is paved much too smoothly To lead anyone to Hell. You glance quickly into your rearview mirror, But the Narrow Road can no longer be seen. With your foot on the gas pedal, You pour on the power to this pleasure machin...

Inexpressible (Poem)

Inexpressible Inexpressible, formless, unutterable... What my heart wants to say to You. Inside, the words aren't flowing right, I offer You a glimpse - the barest view. What Your love means to my heart, I can only share the smallest part. Inexpressible, formless, unutterable... To my heart - these words are priceless, But I can't reach inside to pull them out; What I'm feeling so real, I can't express. Oh Your love for me means so very much - When I try to grasp these words ... They slip right out of touch. Inexpressible - the very words I long to say... Formless - they don't come together the right way... Unutterable - I can only offer You my heart, And let Your Spirit read each and every part... Maybe my heart can reveal the prayer That is locked deep within; This prayer I send to You. The love that You gave to me, I long to share; I long to give these words to You. Inexpressible, formless, unutterable... August 20th, 1995 Jerry Bouey Likewise the Spirit also h...

I Know (Poem)

I Know I get up each morning and I start each day I think about You and I start to pray And I know, I know Everything’s going to work out fine. I shower and dress with my mind above I know You’re near and I feel Your love I believe, I believe You are in control. I put on Your armour to face the foe I don shoes of peace and I start to go I follow, follow You You will light my way. I head out the door upon my way Oh Lord God, what can I say? I know, I know I’m resting in Your arms. I persevere even if the day seems dark Because in my heart I can feel the spark Of Your love, Your love Fills me more each day. May 5th, 1995 Jerry Bouey 2 Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Ep...

Birthday Poem For A Christian (Poem)

Birthday Poem For A Christian Another year older, a year of living in the light of the Lord, A time of changing, a time of growing, A time of learning to use His Sword. Maturing more as the days go on, Telling others what Christ has taught you, Touching hearts as you travel along, Living love - we can see Him in you. A miracle is working there in your heart, A new beginning, He changed you right from the start, And now you know that there is no turning back, The grace of God you will never lack. You're a picture of what our great Redeemer can do, When you walk in His love, you make an excellent view, You are changing on the inside, it's really plain to see, Like a stranger to this world - living for eternity, Committed to our Saviour, you are resting in His hands, He planned your future long ago, before your life began. Oh, delight yourself forever in the living Lord, Wait on His gracious love and receive His Word, Taste and see how good our God is, He is awe-inspiring and Hi...

Awestruck And Relief (Poem)

Awestruck I can reach out to the very throne of God Fall on my knees and worship You with awe I can lift up my voice and worship the King I can give You my heart, give You everything I can bow before You in humble adoration I can sing to sing You with gladness and exaltation I can give You my life, give You my all As I glimpse Your glory - upon my knees I fall I want to praise You, Lord, and lift You higher Oh my soul is amazed, You are my desire. October 19th, 1995 Jerry Bouey Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:19-21 Relief A stone has been rolled away from my heart, Peace floods in and the joy of worship starts, My...

A Lasting Impression (Poem)

A Lasting Impression For I delivered to you as of first importance that which I also believed, The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, that which also you received: In the truths of the Scriptures you took your stand - Holding fast to the salvation which our God has planned; Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised on the third day, According the Scriptures; testifying that this is the way. My beloved brethren, be unmoveable, diligent and always steadfast; Knowing that if you persevere in the Lord, your labour will surely last. September 19th, 1995 Jerry Bouey 1 Corinthians 15:1-3 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, m...

In Your Grief (Poem)

In Your Grief In your grief, what comfort can I give? I have nothing but Christ to offer you. You are not left alone to grieve, Jesus, Himself, can pull you through. In your grief, though loss overwhelms you, Don't let the pain within tear you apart. I know the only place of safe refuge, Is when Jesus is living inside your heart. I know you are hurting and I offer you hope. Even in the midst of your aching sorrow, There is a peace that can help you cope. Don't let your grief steal away your tomorrows. In your grief, I can offer you life, Though someone so dear to you has died. I can offer you all that the Lord has to give, If you will turn to Jesus, the Crucified. Believing in Him doesn't mean there's no sorrow, Because I know there is tremendous pain, But if you will give your life to Christ, the Saviour, In your broken heart there will be joy again. September 8th, 1995 Jerry Bouey 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old thi...

Which Is Better? (Poem)

Which Is Better? Which is better: To play loud music for the masses, Or to sing softly for the Holy One? To soar among the heavens, Or to walk beside God's Son? Which is better: To touch the lives of others Who only touch your own? Or to reach toward another Who feels left out and alone? Which is better: To climb the highest mountain, And to swim the raging sea, Or to worship Him who made them both, And who also created me? Which is better: A life filled with rose-strewn pathways, A life of ease and luxury, Or a life that has its pain and suffering, And a God who cares for me? Sometimes I want the easy way, A way that doesn't test my faith, But then the hard times come along, And my dreams vanish away like wraiths. I don't want to stumble blindly in darkness, I would rather pierce the night, But I will gladly give away all my candles, And let Jesus be my guiding light. I won't let my emotions play upon my faith, As if it were a jungle gym, I will let life's situat...

God Is So Good (Poem)

God Is So Good God is so good, But this life is so tough. The days seem so long, The road is so rough. Sometimes I get bogged down With the things that I find. The pressures seem too much, The world's lies claw at my mind. When I begin to feel trapped, Locked within this rat race, I know that there's real truth, And it's only found one place: The answers to my search for life Do not lie within. Inside is a rebellious heart, Marred and scarred with sin. When I need true peace That takes away the fear, The doubts that come Lord, I know they're here, When I need hope That overcomes the pain, A will to live, And grace to start again I look to Jesus - Oh He loves me I know; I can feel His mercy and strength Beginning to flow. January 4th, 1995 Jerry Bouey Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, wha...

Following (Poem)

Following Following in Abraham's footsteps, You are going like never before. Though uncertain of the outcome, In faith you will trust the Lord. While you wait upon God's guidance, Unsure of where to start, Like Moses of so long ago, Waiting for that Sea to part. Like the Israelites in the wilderness, Receiving Manna from the skies, You will follow God's own leading, As His path opens before your eyes. For we know Jesus has great plans for you, A future that's laid up in store; A path of peace and holiness, With Christ's blessings forevermore. It's in Him we live and move and have our being, Trust in His Word - it's worth believing. As you seek wisdom and leading from the Lord above, You'll find what you need through His mercy and love. Persevere in the race and stand firmly too. As you are transformed by His grace Let His love shine through. April 7th, 1995 Jerry Bouey I am the light of the world, he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but sh...

True Love (Poem)

True Love A love so true, someone who is always there, You love me, Lord, and I know that you care. Though others disappoint and are always changing, I know that You never will. When life is turbulent and the road is twisting, You say to my heart, "Be still." I must rest solely in Your tender arms, Guarded by the strength You convey; All others will fail time and again, But You, my God, will always stay. When my heart is aching inside, no matter the reasons why, You touch the wounds, heal the hurts, and dry these tears I cry. When something is missing in my life, And my heart yearns for something more, You teach me of Your covenant love, And the hope that is laid up in store. When I'm lonely inside, Your arms are open wide, Sheltering and protecting, so strong, yet mild. Your Spirit stirs within my heart, fixing every broken part, Reminding me that I'm Your child. Though some things in life are unsure, And at times I feel left all alone, You touch my heart and I am ...

Dream Or Reality? (Poem)

Dream   Or Reality? Is it just a distant dream, this vision that I see To know my Heavenly Father as a warm reality? To sense the blessed comfort within His precious Word To know His deep compassion behind each word I've heard. To understand the heart that knows the real me To believe that I'm protected, that He's my security To know that He is near, His Spirit is inside me To believe that He will never leave as a strong certainty. To experience the presence of God that evil cannot harm To give all my cares to Him and rest within His arms To feel His joy and fellowship, His love without an end To know God as my Father and as my trusted friend. To believe I can depend on Him to provide my greatest needs To know that He sees into my heart and hears my silent pleas To believe He is there for me and holds my hand when I'm alone As a parent stands beside their child and loves their very own. To know that He created me and I will never be forsaken To understand He is my for...
