Prayer For My Friends (Poem)

Prayer For My Friends

Oh Lord, my heart is breaking for my friends,
I am grieved and I don't know what to do.
I've done all I can to offer them hope;
All that's left, Father, is to lift them up to You.

I can't change the situations in their lives,
Oh God, they seem so powerless and weak.
Jesus, You who share their every sorrow,
Fill their hearts with the strength and peace they seek.

Lord, let me stand in the gap for all my friends,
Let me lift them in prayer to You each day,
Let me be faithful, Lord, to show Your love,
And shine a beacon of hope to light the way.

Let me be a witness of all that You can do
Through a life that's set apart for Your glory,
And when the raging tempests come their way
Let perfect peace and comfort be their story.

Let my example be a source of hope,
A vivid picture of Your redeeming love.
Let me always tenderly point the way
To the refuge found in Jesus Christ, above.

(For my friend, Alma
I'm praying for you!)

A bruised reed shall He not break,
and smoking flax shall He not quench...
And in His name shall the Gentiles trust.
Matthew 12:20-21

Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD
in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:
1 Samuel 12:23

And I sought for a man among them,
that should make up the hedge,
and stand in the gap before Me for the land,
that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
Ezekiel 22:30

Let me stand in the gap, Lord!

My Prayer For His Will (Poem by Angela Trenholm)

Sometimes trials come and we truly want to question why, but for the child of God there is no need. God knows what is best for each one of us, and He uses our trials and tribulations to not only mold but refine us. He is making us into His image:

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God. Zechariah 13:9

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. 2 Timothy 2:20-21

This poem was written as I stayed up to keep watch on Melissa (2 1/2 years old at the time) when she had a high fever that would not go down. At this point, suspecting RSV or pneumonia. Found out the next day she did indeed have pneumonia and an ear infection. The Lord answered my prayers and healed our little girl.

My Prayer For His Will

As I lay beside you in your bed,
My heart is so full of concern.
How I want to see you well again –
Is the prayer that within me burns.

To hear you laugh, as only you can do;
To see your precious smile light your face.
Each moment you have been with us,
Is a reminder of my Saviour’s grace.

Though I knew you have a heart condition,
You’ve been so well, I had forgotten.
But seeing you lying there, so frail and weak,
My heart is burdened with overmuch grief.

Your sickness is a clear reminder –
That to us, you do not belong,
But are lent to us from The Master,
And I know He’ll not steer us wrong.

You are our Lord’s, and He knows best.
As He fulfills His perfect will,
In each of our lives, it’s a test,
And we need but to stand still.

Too often we try so hard to control,
The circumstances that come our way.
Then these become a burden to our soul,
As we’ve led ourselves astray.

Dear Lord, if you choose to call her home –
Though I know my sorrow would be great –
Cause me to see that your grace will uphold me,
Help me, as in your care I commit her fate.

Oh Lord Jesus, may this my prayer be:
“That all in Thee, do I put my trust;
That I not question Your perfect will,
And all that You have planned for us.”

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:
for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

When I Stop Praying (Poem)

When I Stop Praying

When I stop praying - my whole life falls apart,
No joy thrills my soul, no peace fills my heart,
My compassion soon dies and my desires are not met,
The future seems uncertain, and there's no end of debt.

When I stop praying - it is obvious, the Lord I have not sought,
I have not seen Him work in my life and heart as I ought,
The things that I loathe about myself are still there,
And the plans that I am making are castles built on the air.

When I stop praying - I have let reign fear and doubt,
I have taken the reins of my life and left the Master out;
To other Christians and the world, I have let it be known
That I am prideful and think I can do it all on my own.

When I stop praying - it's obvious to the Lord that I fell
From my own steadfastness while others are on their way to Hell,
I am not standing in the gap, nor caring for the lost,
I am not plucking brands from the fire, nor counting the cost.

When I start praying again - the reverse is quite true,
I have moved my eyes off of myself and put them back upon You,
Claiming God's promises, seeing hearts and lives truly changed,
With a burden for souls, my priorities are rearranged.

When I start praying - answered prayers are only part of the story,
Now my mind is transformed, and I am living for God's glory,
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the word on my lips,
And my soul is grieved when I let an opportunity slip.

When I start praying - Jesus is precious to my soul,
My heart is no longer broken, but perfectly whole,
Fellowship with my Lord is wonderfully sweet
As my life is filled with victory instead of defeat.

When I start praying - there are riches that are waiting to be found,
Joy fills my heart, and the peace of God does abound,
The Word of God opens up like a bounteous treasure chest;
As the burdens are lifted, I am secure in my haven of rest.

Prayer moves the arm that moves the world.
Charles Spurgeon

Fervency is the fire on the altar of your heart
that burns the incense of prayer
and sends the sweet-smelling savour up to God.

I was not looking at the little in hand, but at the fullness of God.
George Mueller, when his needs were great and the supply small

I have held many things in my hands, and have lost them all;
but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.

William Carey

All God’s giants have been weak men, who did great things for God
because they reckoned on His being with them.
Hudson Taylor

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

Mark 11:22-24 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Jude 22-23 And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

1 Samuel 12:23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

Inexpressible (Poem)

Inexpressible

Inexpressible, formless, unutterable...
What my heart wants to say to You.
Inside, the words aren't flowing right,
I offer You a glimpse - the barest view.
What Your love means to my heart,
I can only share the smallest part.

Inexpressible, formless, unutterable...
To my heart - these words are priceless,
But I can't reach inside to pull them out;
What I'm feeling so real, I can't express.
Oh Your love for me means so very much -
When I try to grasp these words ...
They slip right out of touch.

Inexpressible - the very words I long to say...
Formless - they don't come together the right way...
Unutterable - I can only offer You my heart,
And let Your Spirit read each and every part...

Maybe my heart can reveal the prayer
That is locked deep within;
This prayer I send to You.
The love that You gave to me,
I long to share;
I long to give these words to You.

Inexpressible, formless, unutterable...

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:
for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:
but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us
with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Romans 8:26

But God commendeth His love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down his life for us:
and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1 John 3:16

And hope maketh not ashamed;
because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts
by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Contend For The Faith (Poem)

Contend For The Faith

When this lost world wants to bring you down,
When the error of the wicked everywhere abounds,
Hold fast what you have, that no man take your crown.
Contend for the faith - you're standing on holy ground.

For the unsaved that God places in your path each day -
For the prodigal sons that have wandered astray -
Put on your Gospel Armour and enter the fray.
Contend for the faith - and fervently pray.

For the lost in a world that is reaching its end - contend!
For the precious souls of your loved ones and friends - contend!
Against a society that doesn't dare to "offend" - contend!
For the Truths on which eternal life depends - contend!

Jude 3-4 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jude 17-19 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

2 Peter 3:3-4 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

2 Timothy 4:1-5 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Blessed Is That Man (Poem)

Blessed Is That Man

Blessed is that man whose trust is in the Lord,
Whose heart is wholly yielded to God's Holy Word,
Whose faith rests upon a solid foundation,
Who has trusted Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

Blessed is that man who delights himself in God's Word,
Who wields the same as a sharp double-edged sword,
Has a mind for the battle, is willing to fight,
That brave warrior who stands in the strength of His might.

Blessed is that man whose mind is on eternity,
Who stands faithfully in the gap for you and me,
Fighting spiritual battles in the whole armour of God,
Following in the footsteps that other saints have trod.

That good soldier of Christ, that mighty man of God,
Blessed is that man!

Shine Your Light (Poem)

Shine Your Light

Shine Your light into my soul, dear Lord;
Like Moses, I long to see Your glory.
Shine the Truth into the hearts of men,
Enlighten them to the Gospel story.

Illumine my spirit through Your Word,
Open my clouded eyes that I may see -
Then shine brightly through my life to others -
May they catch fiery glimpses of You in me.

Change my heart by Your radiant glory:
Dispel the shadows that are a part of me;
Transform my soul through Your Holy Spirit;
Remove the dross of my sin - make me free.

Shine Your light into my life, Lord Jesus.
Like a glowing jewel, burn intensely through me.
Let the world only see Your glory alone -
Let them see You shining brightly, not me.

Shine brightly, dear Lord Jesus, through me.

Exodus 33:18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.

Psalms 119:18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.

Psalms 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Matthew 5:14-16 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

2 Corinthians 4:6  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

A Breath Of Prayer (Poem)

A Breath Of Prayer

A breath of prayer in the morning
Means a day of blessing sure;
A breath of prayer in the evening
Means a night of rest secure;
A breath of prayer in our weakness
Means a clasp of a Mighty Hand;
A breath of prayer when we're lonely
Means Someone to understand.
A breath of prayer in our doubtings
Assures us the Lord knows best.
A breath of prayer in our sorrows
Means comfort and peace and rest;
A breath of prayer in rejoicing
Gives joy an added delight.
For they that remember God's goodness
Go singing far into the night.
There's never a year nor a season
That prayer may not bless every hour,
And never a soul need be helpless
When linked with God's infinite power.

Frances McKinnon Morton

Luke 18:1  And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18  Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Esther's Prayer (Poem)

Esther's Prayer

I have a prayer for when I go.
It may be soon, I just don't know.
There is a bit of fear I guess.
I have some worries I must confess.
When the doubts come and the fear,
Help me remember, Lord, You're near.

What will happen when I'm gone?
Who will help my loved ones carry on?
Who will comfort them and ease their pain?
Who will provide their needs and explain
That I've gone on to a better place,
To gaze upon my Saviour's face?

Let me learn from the sparrows, Lord.
And teach me from Your Holy Word,
That You watch over each and every one,
And You decide when their time has come,
Then gently remind me that You are in control,
And I can still trust You, Lord, with my soul.

If You can preserve Your Word forever,
Then surely I need not doubt, no never,
That You know what's best for me and mine,
And that I can trust You when it's time,
To give them solace in their pain,
And bring them rainbows in the rain.

I thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking my fear,
And Heavenly Father, for drawing near,
And Holy Spirit, for Your comfort and peace,
For letting the doubts and worries cease.
I thank You again for peace in my soul,
And reminding me, You are in control.

My times are in Thy hand…
Psalm 31:15

Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

Luke 12:6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

John 14:16, 26 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter that he may abide with you for ever; But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Prayer For Perfect Peace (Song)

Prayer For Perfect Peace

(To the tune of "Great Is Thy Faithfulness")

I need Your peace, dear Lord, oh how I dearly cry,
Fill me with strength and grace before I die!
I'm at the end of hope, help me to cling and cope,
Hold me in Your arms and bear me up high.

Help me to look to You and cling to You daily,
Help me to trust in faith, and cast fears away,
Grant me your perfect peace, please fill my mind with ease,
Comfort and strengthen my heart, Lord, I pray.

Father, I'm trembling, and troubled, and worried;
I give these cares to you, oh take them away!
Help me to lean on you, I'm wearied with struggling,
Fill my aching heart with Your peace today.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

A Silent Prayer (Poem)

A Silent Prayer

When I lose sight of the goal
And take my eyes off of the prize,
When all I can see are the mountains
That rise before my eyes,
When all I can feel are the waves
That come breaking over my soul,
Precious Jesus, I need Your touch
To heal me and make me whole.

I've fought the good fight, at times it seemed rough,
I've kept the faith, even when it was tough,
I wish I could finish my course with ease,
But sometimes I waver in times like these.

My heart is weighed down and burdened with care,
Lord, I lift up to you this silent prayer.
Don't let me falter - let me be steadfast,
Give me a hope that will be sure to last -
A confident expectation that all will work out for good -
Even when it seems there's no way that it possibly could.

When my own strength begins to fail,
Anchor my faith within the veil,
Where Jesus is.

(Dedicated to Lori Tremblay, my sis)

... That we might have a strong consolation,
who have fled for refuge
to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul,
both sure and stedfast,
and which entereth into that within the veil;
Whither the forerunner is for us entered,
even Jesus...

Prayer For Faith/Heaven (Poem)

Prayer For Faith -

A Cancer Victim

I don't know you yet, but for you I do pray,
I can't wait until we gather in Heaven someday,
Where we will meet, face to face,
with our Father Divine,
We're one big Christian family,
Oh sister of mine.

One day we will see the bright Morning Star,
For now, He can reach us, wherever we are.
In the Kingdom, He will wash away all our tears,
There will be no more worries, sorrows, or fears.

We will live in love eternally, too,
Each precious moment will be something new.
Away with these bodies, mortal and frail,
God's promises to us will never fail.
The hope in our hearts will come true that day,
When Jesus is revealed, forever our joy will stay!

Heaven

Heaven is such a beautiful place,
We will be free from all our fears,
When we've finished running the race,
Our problems will finally disappear,
Of sadness, there will be no more trace,
He will wash away all our tears,
When we meet Jesus, face to face,
Words of love will fill our ears.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God,
and it doth not yet appear what we shall be:

but we know that, when He shall appear,
we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.

1 John 3:2

Who shall change our vile body,
that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body,

according to the working whereby
He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.

Go Forward On Your Knees (Poem)

The quotes are actual statements by missionaries or preachers of the past.

Go Forward On Your Knees
How brave and sure were those missionaries of old,
Those faithful prayer warriors - they were so bold;
Courageously saying, “Give me souls or I die!”
“Go forward on your knees” was their fervent battle cry.
“God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply.”
Go forward boldly, following your Saviour from on high;
Though “You do not need a great faith, but faith in a great God” -
“Go forward on your knees” - follow the footsteps Jesus has trod.
By faith we know, “Prayer moves the arm that moves the world!”
Under the banner of the cross, let your flag be unfurled.
Victory is promised, but it will not be on beds of ease -
A life of dedicated service - “Go forward on your knees”!
Whether you serve your Father here, or serve the Lord abroad,
“Expect great things from” Him, and “Attempt great things for God.”
Wherever you may go, around the corner or across the seas -
Be faithful to the Lord in prayer - “Go forward on your knees!”

Before reaching Honan, Goforth had received a cordial letter from Hudson Taylor, telling him of the tremendous obstacles ahead and reminding him of his need of super-natural assistance. "Brother, if you would enter that province," Taylor wrote, "you must go forward on your knees." Goforth did just that. Not a day passed but that circumstances and events caused him to recall his life text and to rely on its promise, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts" (Zechariah 4:6). ABC's Of Heaven's Glory (Song)

ABC’s Of Heaven’s Glory

Adopted as God’s child,
Born from above,
Carried to Heaven on the wings of His love.

Destined for glory,
Eternity is in view,
For consider the
Great plans
He has for me and you -
In His wisdom He will follow them through.

Jehovah, Jesus,
King of Kings,
Lord of Lords;
Marvel at our Saviour, worship Him in one accord.

No name is greater -
Only Jesus will reign;
Ponder the promise He is coming again!

Quiet the inward struggles,
Rest in His gentle arms, be
Still your anxious thoughts - He will calm the raging storm.

Tarry in prayer a moment,
Until He answers you;
Verily God has promised -
Watch Him come through.

EXalt your great Leader, follow Him day by day -
You’re marching upward to
Zion, and He’s leading the way!

Always
Be
Careful, to watch and to pray.

Hebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Lift Up Their Hands (Poem)

Lift Up Their Hands

Lift up the hands that have fallen down,
Oh, my brethren, strengthen the feeble knees…
But what if it’s your hands that have grown weaker,
What if it’s you that falters in times like these?

What if your hands are feeling too heavy for you,
What if the burdens you carry seem too much to bear,
What if your soul is overwhelmed by your own struggles,
Where are those dear friends to lift you up in prayer?

Lord Jesus, bring an Aaron alongside their path,
To walk beside them and lift up their hands.
They’re faltering and weary and feel so weak -
They need a comforter to help them to stand.

A friend who can stand in the gap for Your people,
To lift up their spirits when they wander from home,
A brother to bring them before the throne of God;
To help them remember where their true strength comes from.

Let me be that servant that will petition for them,
Who will hold up their hands through the long dark night,
Let me be the warrior that comes alongside,
To help them to win in these battles they fight.

Let me stand in the gap for my friends,
To lift up those hands that hang down.

Use me, Lord, to lift up their hands.

October 26, 2023
Jerry Bouey

(Dedicated to all my friends in the Lord.
Let me be an Aaron to lift up their hands in prayer when they struggle.)

Job 4:3-6 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands. Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

Isaiah 35:3-4 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.

Hebrews 12:12-13 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

Exodus 17:8-13 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

1 Timothy 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Still (Poem)

Still

If the stars should fall down from their place,
If the tears fell slowly down my face,
Lord, still would I trust You,
And give You my praise.

If the world should be overcome by evil,
Still would I thank You for the good that remains;
If I am overcome by evil,
Lord, I ask You to remove the stains.

If life ever becomes too much to bear,
Remind me of how much You deeply care.
If all Your blessings suddenly ceased to pour,
Still I want it to be You that I adore.

Yea, though You slay me, Lord,
Still would I trust You.
Though my path may seem dark,
Still would I follow You.

Still would I wait for You,
Until Christ is standing at the door,
But no matter how much I love You, Lord,
Still I know that You love me more.

Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender,
and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass,
know that it (Christ's return) is nigh, even at the doors.
Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
Mark 13:28-30

Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him:
He shall also be my salvation.

Wrestling Until The Break Of Day (Poem)

Wrestling Until The Break Of Day

Alone with God - salvation’s story,
Wrestling until the break of day.
This is worth the greatest glory,
To cling to Jesus come what may.

Wrestling, praying, holding on so tight,
Like a prince, I won’t let Him go.
Transformed by grace throughout the night -
Oh how much He must love me so!

Running from fear, and troubling trials,
Faltering, afraid, stopped in my tracks;
From worry, to peace - yet, all the while,
Knowing inside there’s no turning back.

Wrestling until the darkness shatters,
A part of me won’t give up this fight;
But it’s not my hold on God that matters:
He is wrestling with my soul tonight.

Struggling, pleading, in desperation,
Until my strength is taken away,
Wondering at my situation -
Believing He’s the victor this day.

Within my own heart, there is a peace:
He will not leave His work undone;
Transforming my life piece by piece,
Until the rising of the sun.

Wrestling in faith, like Jacob of old,
Until his life was rearranged -
Now touched by God, lo and behold,
I find myself forever changed.

When trouble comes to darken our trail,
Though it seems we can’t find our way,
Our Saviour’s love will never fail -
Wrestling until the break of day.

(Dedicated to my nephew, Andrew. It's wonderful to see you grow in your faith day by day.)

Jacob was in distress and worried about his brother, Esau, and his 400 armed men coming his way. Left alone with the Lord, his only option was to cling to God until the day break. This is much like us, wrestling with ourselves and our Saviour, until the day break and the shadows flee away - not letting the Lord go until He blesses us by changing our situations or ourselves.

Genesis 32:24-31 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.

Hebrews 11:21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

Jacob’s encounter with the Lord God changed his life forever!

Song of Songs 2:17 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.

Bether means “division,” ie. what separates us from our Saviour. Jesus will come leaping over the divisions and difficulties in my life.

Song of Songs 4:6 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.

From the time the Song of Solomon was written until the time of His return again, the Lord Jesus Christ would go to the mountain of myrrh (ie. myrrh meaning death, to face death on Calvary), and the hill of frankincense (ie. incense represents prayer, and He would go as our High Priest to pray to the Father for His brethren).

Song of Songs 8:14 Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.

This song ends with the Shulamite looking forward to her Beloved Bridegroom’s return, much like true believers are awaiting Jesus’ return to take His bride home to be with Him forever.

Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

The last book of the Bible ends on the same note. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Undertake For Me (Poem)

Undertake For Me

Jesus, I feel so overwhelmed -
Won’t you undertake for me?
Exchange these burdens of my heart
For the sweetness of Your peace.

I cast these cares upon You, Lord -
I cannot hold them anymore;
They are like the waves upon the sea,
Relentless against the shore.

I roll these troubles unto You,
I cannot bear them though I’ve tried;
I let them fall down around Your feet,
With all these tears that I’ve cried.

Exchange all these troubles, Lord,
For the joy that is Yours alone,
I place them all into Your arms,
As I worship around Your throne.

I will take Your yoke upon me, Jesus -
Oh, it makes for such a lighter load!
With Your joy and strength within my heart,
We journey together down this road.

(Dedicated to Emberley's friends and family)

This poem (below) was written based on a friend’s Facebook post today about being overwhelmed. These passages (or should I say, promises!) came to mind (some word definitions under the verses):

Isaiah 38:14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

Undertake: Technically, to traffic (as if by barter); also or give to be security (as a kind of exchange); To have fellowship with, share; To take upon oneself; To take upon or assume any business or province.

Psalms 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Cast: to throw out, down or away (literally or figuratively).

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Casting: to throw upon, place upon.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Faith As A Grain Of Mustard Seed (Poem)

Faith As A Grain Of Mustard Seed

I don’t know if I have the courage
To carry me through each day,
But with faith as a grain of mustard seed,
I know my Lord will make a way.

With Jesus watching over me,
I need not fear what lies ahead;
I just seek the Saviour first of all,
And He provides my daily bread.

With His Spirit dwelling within my heart,
I know I have all the help that I need;
With groanings which cannot be uttered,
He answers my heartfelt pleas.

With so many mountains in my life -
These dark cliffs of which I dread -
With faith as a grain of mustard seed,
I can move these mountains instead.

It’s not the size of my faith
That matters in the end;
It’s the greatness of my God
Upon which it all depends.

With faith as a grain of mustard seed,
There’s hope to face each day -
With a Bible full of promises,
My Lord will make a way!

(Dedicated to two sisters in Christ, my real sister Lori Tremblay and Sis Deb Bolack)

Matthew 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Luke 17:5-6 And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Please consider visiting Sis Deb Bolack's Song/Devotional site, Lyric Devotions, as well as visiting the page for Team Emberley on Facebook and praying for her grandaughter. She really needs your prayers - with faith as a grain of mustard seed, right?

Exhortation To Prayer - Hymn by William Cowper

Exhortation To Prayer
by William Cowper

What various hindrances we meet
In coming to a mercy seat!
Yet who that knows the worth of prayer,
But wishes to be often there?

Prayer makes the darken'd cloud withdraw,
Prayer climbs the ladder Jacob saw,
Gives exercise to faith and love,
Brings every blessing from above.

Restraining prayer, we cease to fight;
Prayer makes the Christian's armour bright;
And Satan trembles when he sees
The weakest saint upon his knees.

While Moses stood with arms spread wide,
Success was found on Israel's side;
But when through weariness they fail'd,
That moment Amalek prevail'd.

Have you no words? Ah, think again,
Words flow apace when you complain,
And fill your fellow-creature's ear
With the sad tale of all your care.

Were half the breath thus vainly spent
To heaven in supplication sent,
Your cheerful song would oftener be,
"Hear what the Lord has done for me."
