I've Gone Home (Song)

The funeral for a mother in our church (who died of cancer) took place on the day this poem was written. When I got home afterwards, I was thinking about something that was said during the funeral, and was really burdened for the family. I prayed for wisdom to comfort the family and claimed 2 Corinthians 9:7, one of my favourite promises when it comes to offering comfort and hope to others. This poem was the result. I remember phoning this family and reciting the poem over their answering machine - later Angela Trenholm made up a beautiful picture for them with this poem on it. The family asked me to share it with others. (Up until that point in time, I had never kept copies of most of the poems I had written to comfort others - but once this poem was passed on to others, many encouraged me to keep and pass on my other poems as well. They felt these poems were meant to be shared, which is why I have never copyrighted any of them - I want people to be able to freely use and distribute t...

It's Only After (Poem)

Poem for Wednesday I had a hard time choosing what to post next - either this poem, which is one of my all-time favourites, or my most popular one ( I've Gone Home ), which is everyone else's favourite. I decided to do this one today and send out the other one tomorrow. They were both written about the same time. I've Gone Home is the one that got me a lot of recognition and Internet contacts, but it is this one that really found a place in my heart - because of the theme. I was thinking of all the different types of situations - trials, Biblical prophecies, various seasons of strife in our lives, and when the Lord brings the good out of all those hard times. It's Only After that we receive the benefit of them. It's only after that our chastisements yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness, it is only after that we come forth as gold, it is only after that the sorrow is wiped away, it is only after that the healing comes - because that is when we see what God was ...

For Such A Time As This (Song)

This song was neat to work on. Angela Trenholm and her daughter had written three stanzas for an upcoming Missions Conference. I was listening as they were starting to put together the chorus, as we were riding to church - then all three of us finished the chorus, and I think it was that night that I came up with the other three stanzas. If you know the song for the tune that we used, you will realize that I added a little reference to it in one of the stanzas - it certainly fit! John R. Rice's Song is great and I have heard Angela sing it as a special in church. But this song was a special treat - because I had a part in it. Another bonus was the fact that my sister, whom I hadn't seen in six years, was able to be here for the special that Angela and Sarah sang in church. It was definitely a blessing to hear the finished product, and to see the glow on my sister's face when she said, "Wow, that really got my attention! You had a part in writing that? That song was so ...

Introduction To This Blog

Welcome to my new blog. The goal of this site is to be able to post solid, Christian, Bible-based poems and hymns to edify and strengthen others, to be a witness of the love (and salvation) of God, and to exhort others to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ more. The name is based on the following passages: Job 35:10 But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night. Psalms 42:8 Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. Psalms 77:6 I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search. I have found through personal experience that only the Lord Himself can give songs in the night - only He can give His perfect (complete) peace and joy to His children in the midst of their trials and sorrows. It is only through Him that songs can spring up out of troubled hearts - and it is those same songs that truly can touch and mi...

In His Time (Song)

This note was written the same time the poem was, last August. The following poem was written by way of encouragement to those dealing with difficult decisions and issues in their lives, who desire to do right, but are uncertain of the way the Lord would have them go right now. It was written to the tune of Day By Day - a hymn that has truly had an impact on my life these last few months. The first line of my poem came into my mind to that tune and I couldn't get it back out again - so I started praying for the Lord to give me the words to make a song out of it. He brought some passages to mind, and here is the result. I hope it is a blessing to you. One thing that blessed my heart about the song I wrote: a friend sang it in her church in Australia as a special on the Sunday after it was written. In His Time In His time, He makes all things beautiful - With tear-dimmed eyes, we may not see how. Keep on trusting in your Father's wisdom, Do not fear - you're in His hands ri...

A Song In The Night (Song)

(This note was written the same night I wrote the song.) I have been meditating a lot on the book of Job lately, and tonight at church I figured out what the Lord would have me preach on Friday - Walking In The Dark - from Job 9:11; 23:8-10; 35:10, 14; and Isaiah 50:10-11. Also, I was thinking of some of those passages sort of to the tune of Since The Saviour Found Me (it was the last song we sang before the message). I know the syllables don't completely fit the song, but they can go to the basic tune, if it was adapted slightly. A Song In The Night Though darkness hides the sunlight, A song is in my soul; In the night of my affliction, The Lord is in control. I cannot see His footsteps – The path He leads me down; All the way, there’s a promise: His path leads to a crown. Within the stormy blackness, Jesus has His eye on me; Though the darkness hide Him, By faith I still can see. Though nighttime falls around me, The cross leads to the tomb, My footsteps will not falter, His W...
