Longing For Home (Poem)

Longing For Home

The days don’t seem as bright now that you are gone.
I miss your presence and the beauty of your smile.
I remember all the joys we shared throughout the years,
Knowing you were with me through every tear and trial.
Looking forward to seeing you again - yes, I’m longing for home.

The world has lost its lustre, something is missing in this place;
I look around beside me, and I long to see your face.
Everything reminds me of your hugs and the comfort of your touch.
Knowing that I will miss you - even my heart can’t express how much;
But then I look above with joy and hope, and find I’m longing for home.

A place where the light is always on,
Where the warmth of love fills each room,
Where Jesus wipes each tear away,
And removes the shadows and the gloom.

A place of brilliant sunshine, where no pain can ever dwell;
Walking daily by your side and listening to the stories you tell.
Remembering all these things with joy and laughter in my heart,
I long to be with you forever, in the land where we will never part.

I am longing for home.
Keep the porch light on for me.
Yes, I am longing for home.

(This poem is lovingly dedicated to Marguerite Hulme and Tarnia Schultz,
two friends who both recently lost loved ones.
The darker this world becomes,
he greater the reunion in the land of eternal light will be.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus!)

Ecclesiastes 12:1-7 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened, And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low; Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Psalms 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Psalms 92:13 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
