The Rose Of Sharon (Poem)

The Rose Of Sharon

The Rose of Sharon was planted in the garden of the Lord,
Close beside the crosses where in death His blood was poured;
Alone, in the quiet tomb, their Saviour was laid to rest,
And as the darkness slowly gathered, His friends faced their darkest test.

As each one wandered sadly home, they discussed their sorrowful plight;
With hearts broken deep within them, they faced the coming of the night.
The Passover having ended, the hour grew quite late,
As the shadows gathered around them, they pondered their lonely fate.

The first day was the hardest, they understood only in part;
Trying to remember all His promises, sorrow still filled their hearts;
They awaited in tense silence, for the second day to dawn;
And as the women prepared the spices, the sadness lingered on.

Another night of troubled anguish, their pain still so sharp and raw;
Walking to the tomb that third morning, they weren’t prepared for what they saw:
The stone was rolled away from the entrance, and through the dispelling gloom,
They could see the tomb was empty, the Rose of Sharon began to bloom.

"He is not here, for He is risen!" - shout it from the highest heights,
And the power of death is shattered, farewell to darkest night.
The Saviour has arisen, Jesus has conquered Hell and the grave;
Tell the world, “It is finished!” - Jesus alone can save.

Jesus says,
“I am the Rose of Sharon, and the Lily of the Valleys.”
Taken from Song of Songs 2:1

John 19:41-42 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

Matthew 28:5-8 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
